As we scoot into the summer months, it’s time to kick off our annual series “Get Up Get Out” showing you where you and your family can find unique adventures in Central Pennsylvania.

This week, I got to go on a scooter tour of Lancaster’s Amish country.

Meet Marc Cruisemier, president and co-owner of Strasburg Scooter Tours said.

“I have to pinch myself every day realizing I make a living riding a scooter around the most beautiful area in the country,” Cruisemier said. “We have the ability to get people in front of and doing things they really couldn’t do anywhere.”

Like hitting the backroads on scooters through south Lancaster County’s Amish country.

Getting people like frequent riders, Bill and Mary Schuster, up close and personal with local Amish families for an inside peek into their day-to-day life.

“As many times as we’ve been on this tour, we’ve never been the same way twice and it’s awesome,” the Schuster’s said.

So, my photographer, Gary, and I strapped in for a tour ourselves — And boy was that way cooler than we’d expected!

Cruisemier wove us through the back country, visiting Amish homesteads for a look at some fantastic woodworking shops, a chance to take a seat in an Amish buggy and an opportunity for great conversations with your typical Amish families.

With scooter speeds reaching up to 40 miles per hour, cruising between those rolling hills and through covered bridges is a one-of-a-kind experience.

You must be 18 years old or older to operate a scooter and eye wear is required, but experience is not. Each driver gets a little training on how to operate a scooter prior to the tour and after that, you’re good to go!
